Simple Curb Appeal with New Outdoor Lighting

Okay, you guys, this project was on the "One day I'll get around to this" list, but I was laying in bed, putzing on my phone, and I happened to see this BRAND NEW Darby Home Dorchester Light Fixture for only $10 on Facebook Marketplace. Who can say no to saving $195?! As soon as I got up, I measured the size and messaged the seller. Out old outdoor light was fine. I guess. It was too small, not my style, and dated. Really, I wanted something pretty that would make a statement. If you're selecting a outdoor wall-mounted light fixture, pick one that is 1/3 to 1/4 of the size of your door. Yes, it will seem huge, but this is what will make your fixture pop, even from afar. Many houses I see have fixtures that look so tiny, and that is because people are trying to save money and don't measure properly. If you're not sure whether to replace a fixture yourself or hire a pro, Chelsea over at Two Twenty One goes through the general process here . When installin

One Essential Trick for When Your Curtains are Your Headboard

I love the placement of my bed in front of the window. It creates a soft, flowing, elegant space, even though I have no headboard. What I don't love is the idea of pillows ramming up against my curtains, pulling on the delicate sheer fabric. And have you ever had pillows slide behind the mattress? What a pain.

At first, I thought I might buy a mattress wedge or an actual headboard to resolve these problems. I shopped around and headboards were expensive. I don't mind shelling out for something lovely and long-lasting that makes me happy, but a few hundred dollars for a headboard? Yikes. And those mattress wedges weren't going to protect my curtains.

Not only this, but our space is small. Adding too much length, even a few too many inches, would cause my bed to bump right into my dresser. Between that and blocking the window too much meant the height, width, and the depth had to match perfectly with my room.

As I searched, DH mentioned concerned about blocking the windows. I realized I needed a new solution. That's when this bad boy from Amazon caught my eye. It's a bumper designed for toddlers, but it's a perfect fit to act as a buffer at the top of a queen-sized bed.

When it comes to my home, I want my solutions to not only be effective and cost-efficient, but I want them to look good. And this one does. It's completely hidden once pillows are placed back on the bed.

My favorite part of this barrier is the simplicity. One well-shaped hunk of non-skid foam later and I'm free from my pillow woes. If only the rest of life were this easy!
